Burnley recall a handful of players as they travel to Wigan in a match they simply cannot afford to lose.

Brian Laws must find a way of arresting Burnley’s terrible form or they will effectively be relegated this afternoon, with Wolves picking up a crucial point at Villa Park in the early game.

Steven Fletcher is back for Burnley, who line up with three strikers in the side as Martin Paterson and David Nugent are retained.

However, it looks like it could be a 4-5-1 shape, with two of the attackers asked to play deeper roles from the flank.

Kevin McDonald returns to the side in central midfield and will partner veteran Graham Alexander, who has struggled since his return to the side.

Wade Elliott is the fifth man of the Burnley midfield.

In defence, there are two changes with Danny Fox unable to recover in time from his chest injury and Clarke Carlisle is dropped due to his abysmal form, according to Five Live, although Radio Lancashire says the defender is injured.

Michael Duff, who has performed steadily whenever he has been called upon, returns, with fit-again Stephen Jordan preferred to Christian Kalvenes at left-back.

Wigan are without inspirational winger Charles N’Zogbia and the Frenchman will be a big loss for Roberto Martinez.

However, captain Mario Melchiot surprisingly makes an early return from injury for the crucial six-pointer.

Huge Rodallega, who scored twice as Wigan dismantled Burnley’s then impressive home record earlier in the season, will be the main man for the hosts as he looks to add to his eight league goal.

The returning Fletcher will be looking to push himself close to double figures by adding to his existing seven.

Wigan have only scored more than once at home in two games this season, so the match could well be tight.

As Burnley usually score, a draw could be the likeliest result.

Burnley’s away form, however, means it is difficult to predict anything other than a home win.
